Re-Visioning Psychology

James Hillman & the Art of Soul-making

Tuesday March 26, 2019        7-9pm

Harmony Hall at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center

James Hillman had a simple goal: to re-vision psychology and return the practice of therapy to “psyche’s logos,” the language of soul. He is the originator of archetypal psychology, an extension of depth psychology in the tradition of C.G. Jung that recognizes the integral role of mythology and culture in “personal” psychology, and argues on behalf of a world ensouled.

What does Hillman mean by “psyche’s logos” and what are the implications for modern psychology and society? Can his insights be woven into the every day life of the “average” person, in search of a deeper sense of self and soul?

Join Dr. Catherine Svehla for an introduction to the central ideas in Hillman’s Re-Visioning Psychology: personifying, pathologizing, psychologizing, and de-humanizing, and their significance beyond the therapist’s office.

Learn about the provocative ideas of a brilliant thinker (Re-Visioning Psychology was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1975), and enjoy the conversation and community.

$10/person is much appreciated
