“Through an understanding of what the Goddess was, we can better understand nature and we can build our ideologies so it will be easier for us to live.” — Marija Gimbutas
“Signs Out of a Time,” is a documentary about the life and work of archeologist Marija Gimbutas, written and produced by Donna Reed and Starhawk.
Drawing on her extensive knowledge of mythology and linguistics, Gimbutas uncovered evidence of life-affirming and goddess-worshiping cultures in pre-historic Europe.
The film explores how her notions of European prehistory challenged many traditional assumptions about the beginnings of European civilization.
The film features interviews with both her supporters and critics, and explores her studies, excavations and publications, her extensive scholarship, and the controversy surrounding her theories.
The 1 hour film will be followed by conversation about Gimbutas, her work, and the possibility of a new paradigm, hosted by Joshua Tree mythologist Dr. Catherine Svehla.
